Freedom is found in the One who loves us most

Pressing Down
Pain Hurt Disappointment
Shame Fear
Insecurity

The Serpent Grows
Slithers Out
Seeking to Devour
Slicing Sharp Words

Venom Spewing
Lashing Out
Eyes of Fire
Rage upon Rage

It is now exposed
Evident to all
Yet denial is the language
It Hisses

Cutting Biting Devouring
Defending Self-Erected Walls
Un-Forgiveness Bitterness Anger
Enslaves Torments
Slowly Kills

Truth Love Kindness
Joy Encouragement Grace
Peace Peacemaking
These are not what evil speaks

We wrestle not against flesh and blood
But Flesh and Blood it feels
Twisted Truth
Love with conditions
Broken hearts collide

Hearts Bound and Chained
Confess they are free
Tangled in webs and roots
Unstable Foundations Crumble

Messy hearts make messy homes
Life IS messy but

The Messiah is Master
Sets Free Heals Restores
Delivering Love’s Message

He exchanges a Message for Messy

Letting go of self and stuff
Trusting Unseen Hands who Hold
Free-falling into Grace
Resting in Everlasting Arms

Freedom is found in the One who loves us most

The Word. Worship. Prayer.
These are my roots.

Life. Love. Living.

Life can be messy.  Love too.  Living in Community is the only way to get through it if you are a person of faith.  Community is found in the local Church.

1 Thessalonians 2:8 ESV
So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready
to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves,
because you had become very dear to us.

When God lead my husband, Mike, toward the idea of planting a church, we had no idea how it would unfold.  We just knew we wanted to tell people about Jesus.  We were serving in a local church that was/is thriving and reaching out to the community.
But we realized there seemed to be a "people group" that still were not coming.  Why not go to them?

We began to pray, seek, fast and follow the Lord's leading.  There were two couples, along with their families, who heard the call too.  Oak Pointe Church was launched in 2007 and a small group of people began to do life together in community.

Real People.  Real Issues.  Real Answers.

We are all searching for answers to our issues in life and Oak Pointe Church grew into a SAFE place to simply BE REAL.

Life Is Messy sometimes.

It is wonderful and beautiful and filled with
love and family and friends.
But it can be messy.

Real People.
I mentioned earlier that we noticed a "people group".  What I mean by this is that while we had been actively involved in mission and ministry at our former church, there were still those in the community who, for a number of reasons, were not being reached.
Those who had "church hurt" in the past.  Those who had once been church attenders, but, for various reasons, no longer went.

It is evident that the longer you stay out of church the easier it is to simply not go.
Some no longer went because life, lifestyle, and other life changing decisions had overwhelmed them with feelings of shame, unworthy of God's grace and love.

Real Issues.
We were never meant to wear shame.  The church was never intended to be a place where "shame on you" is expressed when ones life is imperfect, sinful, brings you to your knees.  The enemy tells lies.

Church should be a place of Grace.

Oak Pointe Church has been such a place.  I don't say that to tell you that Mike and the leadership have made it so. But that it is what God has made it.  Grace has been extended and Grace has been received.

Mike and I- the preacher and his wife- have 'messiness' in our lives as well.  Issues with family, finances, faith challenges, imperfections and flaws just like the rest of the world.  And our church family has allowed us to BE REAL with them and they have LOVED US WELL!!

We are so very blessed. We have never felt that we had to pretend and present that we have our lives all figured out and that we never make mistakes, yell at each other and our kids...we get to be REAL!! and I am thankful.  Did I tell you that Life is Messy sometimes?

REAL ANSWERS.
Answers to life's real issues are found in the Word of God.  Mike and the Leadership preach, teach and speak in a way that is easy to understand and uncomplicated.  Simple Truth.  Simple Faith.  Loving God. Loving People.

One of the things I see in Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost, is that the gift of Tongues was given to enable the Apostles to speak the Gospel to others in a language they could understand.  That is what happens at our church.

I'm not talking "heavenly language" or incomprehensible words and sounds and noises made to speak to the Lord as a means of worship, like what is noted in other places in the letters to the Corinthians.

But, rather, the ability to bring the gospel to those who need to hear the simple truth that-

"All have sinned. All deserve death.

BUT
Jesus loves you and came to save you
by paying for your sin himself."

Eloquent words, lofty speech...vocabulary no one understands...no.  Simple. Straight-forward.Grace-filled words.

This is what Real People need.  It is what we all need.

So, while LIFE, LOVE, and LIVING can get real messy...and it does... and it IS...

Sharing our lives together in community in the local church brings, GRACE, Truth, Healing, Love... LIFE.

AND when our individual churches see that we are on mission together and release any sense of competition, jealousy, pride, envy, gossip, territorial- ism...

then THE CHURCH
the Bride of Christ makes herself ready
and becomes

BEAUTIFUL

Children of the Day_Summer Bible Study

I live in the South Greenville County area of South Carolina.  If you live anywhere near here, then I invite you to join us for Summer Bible Study. We will meet at The Core, which is a community center in our area.

Beginning June 9 we will begin the new study
Children of the Day by Beth Moore and Life Way

One thing that draws me to this study is the picture on the front cover of the workbook... a girl walking on the beach at sunrise/sunset...one of my favorite things to do!

So what is Children of the Day about? It is the study of 1 & 2 Thessalonians.  I have never studied these books in depth, but I am really looking forward to it!

You don't live near here?  Not sure if there is a group meeting in your area?

Join me here at Life Under the Oak Tree.  Weekly, I will post snippets from the weekly study and you are more than welcome to join in the conversation.  You can also find me on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram.

When interacting via social media, use #ChildrenoftheDay to see what others around the globe are saying about this great Bible Study!  How fantastic is that???

I know... I cannot fathom the mysteries of the world wide web, but it has been bringing the Bride of Christ Together for quite some time and is a great resource to be united in faith!

I hope you will join me in this Summer Bible Study.  You can get your workbooks at LifeWay and other retailers.

Want to hear a section of Beth Moore's teaching on #ChildrenoftheDay?? click on the video below.

Zip-Line Adventure in Faith

Journal entry after our zip-line adventure at Rincon de la Vieja when we were in Costa Rica.

April 29. 2014

LORD,
Today I trusted men who speak a different language to harness me to a cable so I could soar into the air just to witness your handiwork.

Today I realized what it feels like to free-fall into the grip of your grace.

Exciting, fearful, wonderful!  A place of worship, awe. Trust

My first zip was a mixture of fear, anxiety. My mind swirling with doubts.

What if my harness is old, frayed, breaks? What if I am not secured properly to the zip line? What if I Fall? I will be mortally wounded...Will I fall and end up with a tree stuck through my body?? Will I survive?

Oh, GOD!! IF I FALL WILL YOU CATCH ME???

Then I was gently pushed into the air...

My ears had heard of you
My lips had spoken of you
My mind has not understood you!
O Lord you are worthy!!
Mighty. Creative. Wonderful
Genius!!
All creatures of our God and king, praise the LORD.
I praise you!!!

I wanted to stop mid air... in the air between the platforms... and weep…

How much I appreciate the beauty of your creation and the opportunity to witness a minuscule speck of it!

Once on the other side of the longest and fastest zip-line on this adventure, the sight, the sound, the beauty, the quiet, the contrast! We stepped off the platform for a moment or two to view the wonder of the mountainous ridge, covered in foliage, flowers, untouched by man’s desire to plow through and take over…The valley, the Mountains, the sky, to our left.  A family home and small garden and farm on the hill to our right.

I want to weep! Sob. Writhe on the ground in lava-ashes from the pain of not being able to fully praise, honor and exalt the magnitude of Your worth!

Woe to me. I am unclean.

Me and Mike. Costa Rica 2014

Oh, God, If I fall, will you catch me?

I realized, in the moment and later when I had time to process the day, that this question is at the heart of who I am and the heart of all who hear
the call of God say,
"Come, follow me."

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified... for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV
